Intricately carved ceramic soda fired orb by Janet Moran, in rich turquoise green, yellow, and grey. Soda firing is an atmospheric pottery technique where soda ash or baking soda are introduced into a hot kiln. The soda vaporizes, circulating through the kiln to fuse with the silica in the clay and glazes, creating vibrant surface textures and color gradients. Inspired by patterns found in architecture, furniture design, and botanicals, Janet’s ceramic work is frequently fired in this dynamic atmosphere. This decorative orb was intended be displayed as a sculpture, but some creative lighting could be applied to create interesting shadows.
