Floral motif carved, soda fired flower vase by Janet Moran, in a creamy white glaze with green highlights, and grey and yellow flashing. Soda firing is an atmospheric pottery technique where soda ash or baking soda are introduced into a hot kiln. The soda vaporizes, circulating through the kiln to fuse with the silica in the clay and glazes, creating vibrant surface textures and color gradients. Inspired by patterns found in architecture, furniture design, and botanicals, Janet’s ceramic work is frequently fired in this dynamic atmosphere. Finished with pedestal feet to lift it from the table, and top straps to support the flower stems, this functional flower vase can be displayed decoratively as a sculpture or used for bouquets.
